Unable to reach plugin index page
Just updated to 5.20/64bit. Seemed to go ok, until I checked for updated plugins.
Message "Unable to reach the plugin index page" Also tried Get New Plugins - same message. Calibre was installed in the same directory as before, if that matters: F:\Program Files (x86)\Calibre2 using Windows 10. Any suggestions?? thx, Follows copy of details: ==== calibre, version 5.20.0 ERROR: Update Check Failed: Unable to reach the plugin index page. Traceback (most recent call last): File "calibre\gui2\dialogs\plugin_updater.py", line 435, in __init__ File "calibre\gui2\dialogs\plugin_updater.py", line 69, in read_available_plugins ImportError: DLL load failed while importing bz2: %1 is not a valid Win32 application. ==== |

Not sure if I follow this, but still doesn't work.
Looking at the log it doesn't appear that this is an access to across the net, but I'm not an expert. thx, |

Out of curiosity, what type of drive is your F:? Are you running Calibre Portable from an external hard drive?
Is there a _bz2.pyd file located in the calibre\app\bin directory? I would suggest reinstalling Calibre Portable since the error message appears to indicate an attempt to load a corrupt DLL file (pyd is a Python library file packaged as a DLL). For what it's worth, the SHA256 checksum for _bz2.pyd in Calibre Portable 5.20 is 182A2FCDAB94E95C7A14807C5C368723031887375A760F3F73 2916FAB9600543 Last edited by BetterRed; 06-06-2021 at 06:36 PM. |

I suggest you uninstall calibre - if you have both 32bit and 64bit installed, uninstall both. You won't lose settings or libraries providing you avoid third party uninstallers. If your system can support 64bit programs install the 64bit version in Program Files, otherwise install the 32bit version in Program Files (x86). Could a security program be blocking Calibre from accessing?

In answer - F: is an internal HD. No NAS, no portable install. No VM. Is a 64bit system.
_bz2.pyd is in \bin Since C: is a SSD with limited space, I try to avoid installing on it, so I use F: instead Norton firewall - if I turn it off it makes no difference. BEFORE I do anything stupid - if I uninstall Calibre ( to re-install) will all data//files/books remain?? My guess is I should either install the 32 bit version in Program Files (x86), or the 64bit version into Program Files. I think my 64 bit install overwrote the old Calibre version, but I think that was also a 64bit version, but it's been a while, so maybe not. Thanks to everyone for their help. . |

Uninstalling calibre should not affect your library or configuration. This assumes using Windows uninstall or running the .msi file you used to install calibre and using it's remove option. Third party uninstallers will often nuke everything and I do not recommend them.
For a 64 bit environment, I would recommend using the 64 bit version of calibre. |

OK - thanks to all that helped.
First I made a backup... I uninstalled, re-installed the 64bit version to the Program file, everything is where it's supposed to be, nothing appears to be lost, and the plugins are working. thx to all. . |
