Kobo Hd Glo from Aliexpress
Hi there!
I just received my new (seems) Kobo Hd Glo from Aliexpress. It was 73€ with just the case/box missing. Came with glass protector and 15% battery. Starting it opened the main page without registration (and it seemed to me that there was the NickelMenu too but I didn't recognized it in that moment!). So I removed the account (without knowing that this would reset the device completely). So the classic registration page appeared and I wanted to skip it, so I attached the Usb cable... but nothing appeared on the pc! After many tries, I just connected the WiFi and inserted a registration eMail (dind't want to connect to WiFi neither). Than after registering and accessing the home page on the device I tried again.. but no luck with the usb cable! The confirmation message to connect with the computer appears on the device but neither Windows nor Ubuntu sees the Kobo (both the file manager and Calibre). Firmware seems to be 4.23.15548 I tried taking out the SD, and in this way I have now KOReader and Plato and some books but I still miss the ability to update the collection with the Usb cable. What do you think? i somehow fear that the device core has been modified (the recovery partition too could have been modified), and I am not sure if this is a new firmware that prevents me to see the card from Usb or there is some problem or what. |

UPDATE: it was the faulty cable shipped with the device that was not working!
Meanwhile I messed trying to change the SD card with no luck (same size card, cheap one from AliEx, cloned with dd), the device stuck in 'restoring' boot loop. I updated the firmware to 4.26.16704 and it works for me. I now have Plato and KOReader working too. Thank you all, I will try more mods and post updates here. |

I didn't know that you could find Kobo e-readers from China.
Some user reviews mention that they are customs seized; some offers mention slight defects (scratches). This would confirm that they are perhaps second hand I noticed that the offers were mainly for discontinued models. There is however the Kobo Clara HD. There is no way to know if they are counterfeits. Do you have any clue about the authenticity of your device? PS : I was surprised to discover the existence of a Kobo Glo HD 16GB model. I thought the only official model had only 4GB Last edited by Regard_39; 04-26-2021 at 05:45 AM. |

If you replace the internal uSD card, you can increase the storage. I've done this fairly often over the years. Given the device purchased by the OP came with NickelMenu installed, very definitely a used device.
