Windows doesnt detect your kindle, it needs to show up in windows explorer before calibre can detect it.

You don't say what model (and version).
Older ones like my K4 defaulted to Connection mode (vs charge only)
My Android device all require I switch the devices USB to file (there are other modes for different functions) transfer mode before Windows can see it.

Help as I dont know what I can do now I have tried everything and the computer will still not recognise my kindle. I plug in the old kindle and it is recognised immediately butt not the new one. Calibtre gives the above info which I dont understand. I have tried device manager and disk management with no luck.

That device is reporting it has no storage devices available, which is why calibre refuses to connect to it.
This can usually be fixed by rebooting both the device and the computer. Also sometimes faulty/failing
SD cards cause it. If you have an SD card in the device, try removing it. If your device is not in
File transfer mode, you should swipe down from the TOP after plugging it in, tap on the USB notification
and change the USB mode to file transfer.

Tried removing SD card to no avail. Tried swiping down from the top of my kindle and there is nothing there about file transfer or usb modes. HELP!
