Emblems: Not appearing when template copied from column icons

I copied this template from my column icons to my emblems:

It does not work for emblems. I checked that the template has no mistakes and that all the png files are present. What should I do to make it work?

Emblems don't support rules returning multiple icons.

Support for multiple emblem icons using the same 'separated by colon' syntax as icon rules is now in calibre source.

Are you still running from source? If so, also play with resizing the template tester dialog. The layout of the icons on the top line changes with dialog width. The same thing happens with the bottom button line in the icon/emblem/color rules editor.

I run from source to try out the new features. Except I can't remember how to cd to the directory so I can update it.

I use Sourcetree to avoid that sort of ^&* with git. It supports updating a branched repository with a few clicks. I don't know if it will fit your mental model of what is going on, but it might be worth a look.

I got Sourcetree set up and run from source and put the template back. It works as an emblem now. (This is a book that has epub and a paper copy.)

I also have this for reading status (though it works in stable):

I tried that too. It looks good.

I did notice a slight glitch though. Making it narrow enough does this:

Is the glitch the scroll bar caused by the "font" line? For various reasons I didn't change that line to use reflowable buttons. Once it forces the scroll bar to appear then the buttons on the first line stop wrapping.

Nice to see that it works in dark mode.

The glitch is that some of the buttons don't get sent to a new line and instead just get cut off.

That is what I thought. Once the scroll bar appears for any reason such other button bars or a text widget then the "flowable" buttons stop wrapping.
