Missing Titles, Freezing on Import

I hate when these mysterious technical oddities happen!

Somehow, many titles are missing from my Calibre database. I have no idea why.

In trying to import my backup data, Calibre freezes every time (Not Responding).

Any help is appreciated.

WHERE (drive-folder) is the Library kept?
NAS or Cloud sync's are not friends of Calibre running at the same time.

Stop Sync (Library folders) before you use Calibre.
Do NOT run from a NAS or Share (See Calibre FAQ's)

If you are ONLY on a local drive (most common):
Have you checked you PC Event Viewer logs? Your HD may be having issues (about to belly up. I caught one failing a few years ago and quickly cloned-replaced the drive

Cloning and a drive swap can be done in a couple of hours. A full rebuild restore, days

My backups are in One Drive, which is on my PC. It's just another storage location. Why does Calibre keep freezing when trying to restore?? When I restore the database, does it merge with the current database or wipe out the current database?

You've corrupted your database by trying to use with with OneDrive/cloud storage. You need to move your library so OneDrive has nothing at all to do with it.

Once you've moved your library, you need to check it using the check library function and just deal with the fact that you've corrupted it.

OneDrive is a cloud sync.
It is playing Keystone Cops with metadata.db (and others)
Off line (calibre exited) MIRROR (one way) is the only safe way to backup Calibre (and not use Google drive as it makes filename changes)

Advice on How to avoid clashes is always welcome and the way to avoid is to NOT run both at the same time.

Lesson learned. I still don't understand why so many titles are missing from Calibre. I try hard to maintain the library. It's frustrating that they mysteriously disappeared. Thanks for the feedback.

what do you mean by MIRROR? How do I backup Calibre to Documents with Calibre offline?

I would love to know how to unlink Documents from OneDrive

The problem with cloud storage such as OneDrive is that the program to handle it is two-way. There is no one way sync. That's the problem. So things get synced to/from the cloud storage and if anything happens, it gets to both copies.

(I watched a vid. I do not use as I have a NAS)
Simply open you onedrive folder, and right click on what you want (or remove the tick if that shows)

Mirror is a COPY (only)

Use a program like freefilesync, the create a sync plan that only mirrors the source (calibre Library)

remember to backup your Config folder.(do it again if you change settings, dictionaries. PI are usually easy to replace, but their settings are not)

I downloaded freefilesync, but after installation, the program is nowhere to be found. Everytime I click on the exe file for freefilesync, it goes through the installation process again.

Not my day.

Rather than messing with OneDrive, I suggest you move your calibre library out of the C:\Users\<user name>\Documents directory to somewhere like C:\Users\<user name>\Calibre\Libraries and give it a short name like Books.

You've obviously had Calibre for a while, the Calibre install stopped creating the default library in C:\Users\<user name>\Documents a couple of years ago.
