Merge Metadata When Moving to Other Library
I have a book in Library A with a recently update comment.
I have the same book in Library B with an older comment version. If I move the book from A to B, the older version of the comment is retained. Is there a way to overwrite the older comment instead? Thanks, M. |

How did you move the book? I tried it with "Copy to library" and get a duplicate book warning. If I accept the duplicate, I get two copies in the receiving library...the old one does not have the change, the new one does.
Normally, if you change metadata, you have to run Polish or Embed metadata to actually write the changes to the book file. If you used your file manager or some other method to move the book, possibly the book itself did not have the change and this is why the new comment did not show up. |

I assume you art using the built in copy to library
Configure the Preferences: Adding action: Create a new record for each duplicate format (tick Auto-merge) |

Tip: I use of the Edit Metadata tool Copy and Paste options quite a lot, I have them set to Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V.
There's a "Exclude fields when copy/pasting metadata" tweak to control what gets pasted and what doesn't. BR |

None of the solutions work. Automerge with Creating alters the way regular imports work. Polishing made no difference.
The system I have been using is to alter the title of the book in the first database before moving it, and then renaming and merging them in the second. Thanks everyone! |

Yes. The second database couldn't care less what I do to the metadata in the first database. It just wants to hold on to its own.
