Struggling with PDF ebooks into Calibre

Hello. I've been using Calibre for years (using Kobo and now iPad) but I'm not an expert on the conversions or tech details. I am downloading a PDF ebook that expires in one day from my university library and it opens fine in ADE but I can't open it in Calibre at all and no conversion attempts I'm trying work. I'm doing PDF to EPUB and trying various input and output settings but nothing lets me open the ebook in Calibre. Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you.

Hello!
It says conversion error with a long string of data. The last line says:
Syntax Error: Couldn't find the 'EBX_HANDLER' security handler if that helps?
I do have the DeDRM plugin installed. But this seems to be a format issue more than DRM, I think?

It's quite possible that the textbook has Adobe's hardened DRM which the DeDRM plugin does not currently work with.

As for the ethics of attempting to remove DRM to avoid the loan period expiration? To quote from Apprentice Alf's page:

I don't remove DRM from library books. Renew or buy it. By all means remove DRM from something you've bought. Not borrowed or rented.
