Ugly CSS that overrides eReader preferences

Thanks, publisher! I hate it.

The best part is that this is a book I borrow from Overdrive so I can't fix it and sideload it.

The Pocketbook app can override ugly CSS. This is one of the many advantages of Android EInk tablets.

Can't, or won't?

Unless something has changed recently, you can most likely fix it.

Only if you are willing and able to remove DRM from a library book. Otherwise, the stylesheets will be encrypted which makes it a trifle difficult to edit them.

It is hardly possible on a reader.

Given that we are discussing editing CSS, I suspect that very few people are going to be doing that on a reader.

I don't know of any eInk Reader that would allow you to edit an ePub in place.

Not without removing the DRM. As Apprentice Alf's blog says: Support for removing DRM from rented or library ebooks is not provided. A stand I agree with since it is not my book so keeping a copy for backup or other purposes is just immoral IMNSHO.

So, Jon, unless you have a solution for editing the CSS in an epub with DRM in place, please stop telling people to "fix it and side load it".

Well, the OP can always delete their copy after reading the book.

A slippery slope that I don't want to set foot on. Hmmm... I just need another day or two to finish reading the book... Who will really be hurt if I don't delete this book since I might want to re-read it someday?... Add in any other justifications that come to mind.

MobileRead’s position is that it’s permissible to download and remove DRM from OverDrive books for personal use, as in format shifting or other reasons. The assumption, of course, is that the book is deleted in a timely fashion and not kept.

It would be better to report a post than to give an inaccurate ruling. Please leave moderation to the mods. Thanks.

Exactly. Delete it and it's gone.

I'm not advocating removing the DRM in order to keep the eBook. Remove the DRM, fix the CSS, read it, and then delete it from Calibre and the Reader.

Well, I wouldn't know since I don't read library books. But then the only other option is to buy the dratted thing.
