Should I buy comics from Kobo or Amazon?
Hi everyone,
finally in my country manga are being pubblished in digital version too! I wanted to know where should I buy them so that I could save them on my PC without DRM: - Amazon: I have a kindle, so I should be able to download them from kindle to PC, but I don't know how to remove the DRM then - Kobo: I only have an Android device. Is it possible to save the comics from it and remove the DRM? Sadly they're not sold on some DRM free store right now ![]() |

This is going to vary on your preferences:
1. DRM Both DRM options can be broken, so go for your preferred device. 2. Usability IMO, ever since Amazon bought comixology, their panel view game is the best in the world. No one does digital comics and manga better than Amazon. However, if your preferred platform is Kobo, go for Kobo. |

With Kobo, you can download books from the store. For DRM free books, they will be downloaded directly. For books with DRM, they are downloaded via ADE.
It might be different for comic. Some are available as epubs or possibly PDF. But, I think there are some that can only be viewed in iOS or Android apps. I don't read them so I haven't really looked. The format available is shown at the bottom of the page for the book. The format and whether it has DRM is shown under "eBook Details". Then there is a list of devices that the books can be read on. If it includes "eREADER", then you will be able to download the book. If that is missing, it probably isn't, but, it has been a while since I have seen any discussion on this. |

If removing DRM is the primary consideration, then Kobo. Just use the Kobo software for desktop to download your comics.
Not all comics are available for download as kfx and the azw3 Kindle comics that are easy to DeDRM have much worse quality than Kobo. It's possible to extract HQ images from azw6 but you pretty much have to jump through hoops for that. P.S. This is based on the US stores. No idea what differences there are elsewhere.
