Is my Kindle 3 "Special Offers" ?
Bought a 2nd hand Kindle 3, to make sure I have a spare after another one recently gave up the ghost. (I dislike tactile screens and virtual keyboards)
Is there a simple way to tell whether it is a "Special Offers" model, or not ? |

I suggest you register your K3 to make sure it's not blacklisted.
To find out if it is special offers or not, connect to your WiFi and you'll see the ads if it is. |

You should see an advert on the bottom of the home screen if it is the special offers firmware. Last edited by JSWolf; 02-26-2021 at 09:33 AM. |

- I would like to know if I can turn it on, without starting adverts, so I can for instance consult Wikipedia.. Would the firmware nversion depend on Ads/No Ads ? The serial number prefix ? |

I have a PW3 that is the ad version. WiFi has been off forever. The PW3 was originally registered. I sent it back for problems and they reportedly reflashed the firmware (the same version that I had already flashed it to). But when it came back, it was unregistered. I never bothered to re-register it. I sideload all my books and keep WiFi turned off.
I do not have an ads on my home screen. |
