preorders

I normally preorder books by my favorite authors as soon as they are announced. Over the past several years, it was normal for my preorder list to be at least two pages long on the Amazon site, yet looking today, I'm down to 3. I'm not sure what's up. It's not like my favorite authors have stopped writing.

In previous years, I've gotten notices that authors that I follow were coming out with new books as soon as the book was scheduled, frequently a year in advance. Apparently that is no longer a thing. After pulling up a few favored authors, I found 3 more books to pre-order. Sigh. I guess it's back to going through my list of authors on a regular basis and seeing if any have new books or books coming out. You would think that they would have figured out that they sell more books if they notify customers when new books comes out.

Are you counting on just Amazon sending out the notices? Or other sources as well?

I don't have the long list you do, but if it's an author I really like, especially when it comes to a series of books, I always sign up at their own website. I find they generally will keep their readers better informed through newsletters, even when they first start writing the next book in a series. So I know when to watch for its availability (and then curse at the time difference between when the UK releases a book and the long delay for it to be available in the US).

I have a few authors who I have signed up on their websites but few authors seem to have that option. Indies seem to be better about that sort of thing than non Indies. I actually have a couple of indies who are using patreon for that purpose.
