I hope, I'm in the right subgroup. Sorry for the long post, but I tried to be as specific as possible.
![]() I use since years calibre 3.48 (german language) under Win7 64 bit with around 9980 books. Since my house hasn’t wifi until this year, I had to transfer all books via USB from caliber to my Readers (first kindle, then paperwhite and since 3 years Fire fom 7th gen to 8th gen and now 10th gen) Settings are for title/series sorting for both (in caliber and for transfer): strictly alphabetic Settings for 'per language title sort articles' I deleted the ones for German, English and Spanish. I rename a book in a title with either only the booktitle (‘A Christmas day’) or include the series in this directly (‘The Lord of the Rings 1 – The Fellows’) - that was, before I found out, I could transfer books in the form ‘series’ – ‘title’ and I didn’t want to reorganize all books again. At the fire I have collections for each author where I have more then 10 books (this are in alphabetic order sorted), genres like ‘handicapped’, ‘Shifters’, ‘with pets’, ‘Series’, ‘first to read’, ‘Finished’… (which are ‘newest first’ sorted). All in all around 230 collections What I want on my fire to show: All titles strictly alphabetic, when I sort to that option. (starting from '#gaymers' to numbers '1001 tales' to 'A christmas', 'B, C,... 'The Lord of Rings'...) Until around 1,5 years it worked. (Most of the time I have in my collections at fire the sorting 'newest first', so I don't see that, only when I’m searching in authors collections or in series-collections). Now both fire made an update with kindle, because now I have Wifi and of course I made the mistake to try that. And the new version shows me my books. As it should. And it shows me all collections, BUT with no books in it. Since I only ever have transferred books via USB from calibre to fire, they aren’t as documents at amazon. When I open amazon website and go to ‘collections’ I see them all and the number of the books, which should be in it, but not the newest number, since sync wasn’t completes thanks to the update. Only around 75% were correct. But of course, when I open the collection, it can’t show me a book. Since the collections didn’t show me the books at the fire, I searched in the internet and found out, I could go back and deinstall the update to the origin version at Fire. I did that. And I had my collections and books back. But the books where in complete other sequence, then I put it on, so the newest wasn’t the newest, and strictly alphabetic wasn’t strictly. And all ‘read’-marks were lost. So I took the time of around 10 days to check every single book, if it’s in the correct collections (I made a collection ‘unsorted’ for the ones, which I couldn’t remember the genre) and found out, the books aren’t strictly alphabetic. First I thought, I lost the books, but then I found out, they were sorted sometimes with article and sometimes strictly. F.e. My newest series at the fire ‘99 Daddies’ book 1-4, bought, downloaded, metadata worked on and transferred at the same day: book 3 is at the beginnings at the numbers (as it should be) and book 1, 2 and 4 are under D. That happens a lot. Also with the german article ‘Der, Die, Das’ and the English ‘a’ and ‘the’. All done in the last year, when I didn’t change anything at the calibre settings. I didn’t change it since version 3.48 was released. So I searched the internet again and tried every possible and impossible tipp. Always with deleting the existing book from fire, taking the changes in calibre, restart calibre, open the metadatas from the book in calibre, went with enter through every box and saved. (I just tried it with 5 books with starting #, 1001, A, Der and The, as books, not as series) Settings for 'per language title sort articles': German and English articles with additional zzz before (zzzA, zzzDer…) -> not working Then I tried transfer settings to {series} {series_index:0>2s||} - {title}: -> not working Deleting in all metadata the language (since someone said, calibre used automatically English and systemlanguage for articles, when the book is marked in that language): -> not working Changing the language from the books to Italian in the metadata: -> not working Deleting the books out of calibre and download new and reformat to AZW 3 and mobi: -> not working Changing the folder at fire from ‘kindle’ to ‘documents’: -> not working I thought, I could change default_language_for_title_sort to ‘nl’ or similar, but I didn’t find that. The last 2 days I played with lot of variations, uninstalled calibre, reinstalled, tried it at another computer, tried it with my fire 8th gen, installed calibre companion. With that the books in the companion app are strictly alphabetic, but not in kindle app. So for me it seems, it’s a kindle-app problem. But why does it sometimes work and sometimes not? I checked the metadata (when right click on the book), it’s all the same. I can’t find a difference. So I’m at the end of my wisdom. Every time, amazon pushes me to an update, I have to uninstall it and search for books, which aren’t in collections, have to single mark over 4000 books as read. A few loose the covers also. And I can’t find the problem, why it’s not in strictly alphabetic order. In 4 months I’m getting a new notebook and I change from Win10 (which I don’t like) to Linux. I saw, calibre works with Linux also. I don’t think, that will solve my problem, but a girl can dream. But if someone please please have an idea, where I went wrong with my settings, it would be very appreciated. I’m frustrated as hell. ![]() I hope, you could follow my long explanation. |
