Unhappy Problems with the Database

Hello,
Calibre is fantastic, but the database drives me cracy.
I am trying to complete some series. There are missing books. I complete the series and end up with plenty of duplicates.
This is very annoying.
Is there a limit for the amount of books per database?
And what is the max amount?
Is there a workaround or do I have to split my books further?

Regards
Poldi

Normal folk will never hit the limits, even if the hoard books
I think I have heard some folk have 60,000 entries

OTOH you need a decent PC and HD. An old 386 based desktop is not going to cut it. Any 64bit system with Win 7 should be fine if it as 4G RAM and a decent HD

Duplicates? You only get those if YOU add them more than once,
Preferences: Adding Books has controls that might help (look at all the Tabs).

Find Duplicates Plugin can help FIND (you need to decide what to do with each)

As is often recommended, I would suggest two databases, 1 for newly added books (where you can clean up and polish the metadata) and a second as your final database where you move your cleaned books to. Using the Add book controls that TheDucks mentioned you can have it merge duplicate books when moving the polished books to the library.

Upwards of a few billion.

Functionally, it's limited by your computer hardware. You'll hit a wall sooner if you're using 32-bit Calibre instead of 64-bit.

Before I do the move I use the Find Duplicates (plugin)->Find Library duplicates feature to determine if I have a potential duplicates in the 'target' library. If a duplicate exists I resolve 'manually', the CalibreSpy plugin provides the ability to concurrently view multiple libraries.

An Alternate way to peek: Use your browser to view book in the Content Server (target Library)

Seems to be a misunderstanding

Yes, I am hoarding books. Other people collect stamps. I am forced to sit at home and try to arrange my library.
So I am checking and see there is a book missing in a series. The book in question does not appear in my library. So I add this book and after adding books I always look for duplicates. Here is my newly added book. Happens all the time and is quite annoying.
And yes I have Win10 i7 CPU and 8GB Ram and supervised harddisks. So the problem is somewhre else.

There must be a reason

I have WIN10 i7 Cpu 8GB Ram add of course I run the 64 version of calibre.
But still calibre omits books. This is specially annoying when you are looking for missing books in a series, add them and and up with a duplicat.

If Calibre is omitting books from a search, then:
1) there are subtle differences (like an accented character) in the searched fields.

2) there are some not so subtle differences. 'The Series Name' vs 'Series name' ( just had one of those ), One version is Plural Mystery vs Mysteries

You have a VL in effect? (search only look at the current view. Be sure to switch back to All Books)

Don't forget to clear Additional Restrictions as well. That's messed me up more than once.

I am lost with this

What do you mean with VL? I have no idea.
I am not using any virtual computers.
And where do I look for Additional Restrictions?

VL is Virtual Library, Additional Restrictions are a property of Virtual Libraries.
