[Nook] Authors with Middle Names/Multiple Initials

Hi! Hoping someone can help me with the following issue (I've searched through the forums but haven't encountered this yet).

Within Calibre, is there a setting I need to tweak in order for an author's full name to appear on my e-reader?

For example, the author "Arthur Conan Doyle" (Author sort: "Doyle, Arthur Conan") simply appears as Arthur Doyle when I add any of his books to my e-reader (Nook in this case). Similarly, "J. K. Rowling" (Author sort: "Rowling, J. K.") appears as J. Rowling.

Thank you in advance for your help with this! And apologies if this is a Nook issue and not a Calibre issue.

Your device is doing that.
*Assumes* you use Calibre to SEND to the device and not use the OS file explore to Copy.
The book contains Metadata. It may not be what you have 'corrected' in your Library.
Calibre updates the book as it transfers, but does not touch the Library copy

Yes - my Nook is currently blank, so I'm just right-clicking on each book in my Calibre Library I want to send over to the device and selecting "send to main memory." Is there a better way to do this that also copies over my Calibre metadata edits?

Thank you!

Nope! That is the correct way.
Is the metadata in the Calibe Library View correct?
Do you gave some sort of Metadata Plugboard setup? (This is not something Calibre comes with preset)

Not a Nook user, so I have no further clue.

Yes - the metadata for each book in question shows the correct author and author sort names. I also just tried re-converting everything in my Calibre library to the Nook-specific epub format (which they were already in) and deleting all older "original epub" files, but sadly the error persists. Also, I've never set up the Metadata Plugboard (and it showed as empty when I looked it up). I'm fresh out of ideas unfortunately - thank you for trying to help though!

Nook user here and I see the extra initials etc in the book names on the Nook library screen.
When you connect the Nook to Calibre, please check the "device -> Configure this device" screen.
I have set only the following options checked:-

Under available formats - epub, pdb, pdf
read metadata from files on device
Use sub-directories

Save template set to
{author_sort}/{title} - {authors}

Note that I have no metadata plugboards setup at all and when the Nook is connected, Calibre is reporting it as a "Nook_Color"

I have the same configuration settings on the "Configure this Device" screen and no metadata plugboards set up. Calibre recognizes the device as a "NOOK" as well. I just did a factory reset on the Nook and the problem didn't go away unfortunately. Is there anywhere else in Cailbre where metadata is stored that I'm not thinking of? I've updated the author and author sort names on each individual book's metadata tab, as well as the "Manage Authors" screen.

@pfink007 None that I can think of but I'm hardly an expert.

Under "Preferences > Sending Books to Device" how have you set Metadata Management? Mine is "Manual Management" . Again just checking off for any differences.

By the way, what version of Calibre are you using and on what operating system? V5.8.1 64 bit on Windows 10 here

Just checked those setting - mine is set to "Manual Management", too. And also using V5.8.1 64 but, but on macOS (Big Sur 11.1).

I just tried sending books to an old Kindle and the author names were shown correctly, so my assumption is this is a Nook-specific issue.

Also worth pointing out - on the Nook itself, when I go into the "View Details" page of an individual book, the full author's name is listed correctly (including middle name/initial), which leads me to believe the metadata is transferring properly from Calibre to the Nook. It appears the author's name is only truncated in the Nook's "Library" section.

Well I'm at a lose here. My Nook is showing the full author name in the Library views (both cover and list view) And there doesn't seem to be any setting on the Nook to alter the Library views.
Perhaps ask in the Nook forum boards https://www.mobileread.com/forums/fo...play.php?f=209
