After market case v.s official case
The official case seems to me overpriced, compared to what appears to be similar products that can be bought from aliexpress or ebay. They seem to function the same, both the magnetic sleep cover and the origami folding thingy.
Is there a good reason reason to get the official case? |

I can only speak from my own experience of the aliexpress offering - it functions perfectly and with shipping was less than half the price of the Kobo official case. S for me, the answer to "is there a good reason to get the official case?" is "NO!" |

Thank you! And sorry for troubling you with my question. I found similar discussions in the forum, buried 3 or 4 pages deep in the search results. Google habits made me spoiled and lazy, I guess.

One issue that has been seen with some 3rd party covers is misplacement of the magnet leading to improper sleep cover functionality and in some cases poor battery life.

Interesting. Is that happening, specifically, with certain 3rd party Kobo Libra H2O cases or is it something noted over the whole range of vendors/devices that has this sleep cover feature, like other Kobo models or the Amazon kindle line of e-readers?

I've purchase maybe a dozen third party covers for my Kobo Glos and then Glo HDs, and had a misplaced magnet only once where the cover didn't work (and easily returned it for another of the same type that worked perfectly). It's just a fluke in the placement of the magnet during assembly and can happen with any brand or model.
I never could see spending half the price of the reader on one of the Kobo "official" covers and have always used third party covers. |

I have used Forefront covers for my Libra and Forma. I would say they are 90% as good as the official covers, the main difference is that the magnets for the stand up feature are weaker, it works but feels less robust.

The only issue I have had with third-party covers, is that they wear out faster. And in the case of my Aura H2O, that meant the front cover was looser and the magnet didn't always line up properly. It worked perfectly when new, but, after six months or so of use, I would find it hadn't gone to sleep when the cover was closed.
I would also say that most showed wear and tear elsewhere faster than the official covers. But, that might be because the covers were low-cost rather than any real defect. |

My wife did have this issue with her 3rd-party H2O2 cover - when I upgraded to a Libra, I gave her my 3rd-party H2O2 cover, which had been bought just before hers and was still functioning fine. |

I'm fond of using the naked device with out all the extra bulk and added weight. I intend to limit the case usage for those times I'd want to carry the Libra with me in my bag. |

I just ordered a kwmobile cloth, bookstyle cover from Amazon. So we'll see how that works. It's $15 versus $40. |

I thought the official case was overpriced at first, so I initially went with an off-brand case for my Clara HD that was $10 instead of $40. 90 days later to the day, it started developing cracks in the plastic along the corners.
After that I decided to shell out the money for an official sleepcover. YMMV. |

I have the ACDream cover for my Libra and quite like it. I like the magnetic "sleep" closure and the way in which the cover folds (with the magnet) to create a nice stand for when I'm reading at a table. It is much cheaper than the "official" cover and was available on Amazon. I've been using it for over a year now with no issues or even any wear issues.
