Preparing books for reading

Hello,
to speed up the opening of the books, the Calibre process that currently prepares each book for first and subsequent reads, could be implemented as a process that works in background and write the result in a small file that would be read every time a book is opened?
Apart from the first time it should operate on all books contained in Calibre, this process would be triggered only every time a book is modified or opened for reading.
Thanks and bye,
Gianni

That's exactly what it is already. It runs only when a book is modified. If you mean you want it to run for the entire library in advance, I'm afraid not, its too resource intensive for that. Someday, I will make the format the viewer uses its own ebook format calibre cbook or something, and you will be jsut able to convert all your books to that format instead of epub/mobi/whatever for fast opening.

I have found that Calibre 5.x is faster then Calibre 4.23. So if you are using Calibre 4.23 or lower, if you can, install Calibre 5.x and it will be faster.
