Best Format for KP4
What is the best eBook format for a newish KP4? I recently transitioned from a Nook Simple Touch to a KP4. The vast majority of my library is in epub format and when I buy books, they are usually downloaded in epub format too. So, using Calibre, what is the best format to convert these epub books into for use on my KP4 - mobi, azw3, kfx, or ???

Or you can jailbreak your kindle, install koreader, and read epub directly without conversion. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...&postcount=782 |

The best format is KF8. Mobi is obsolete and doesn't do nearly as much. KFX is way too fixed and has a lot of gotchas. KF8 is closest to ePub. |

Thank you both for the fast answers. However, my version of Calibre (ver. 4.23) doesn't seem to have a KF8 option. What am I missing? Is that the same as azw3?

If you are sticking to Calibre 4.23 because of the DeDRM plugin, you can upgrade to the latest Calibre 5 and install the DeDRM plugin v7.0.0b4.

j.p.s Jailbreaking my PW4 is far outside my comfort zone. As I mentioned in the 1st msg, I just switched from a Nook Simple Touch to a PW4 and that has been a quantum leap for me.
JSWolf I'm holding at Calibre 4.23 only because Caliber 5+ seems to have a lot of growth bugs. I suspect it might take Kovid et. al. a bit to iron out all the little things. I'm willing to wait. DNSB Thank you! That is what I suspected but wasn't quite sure. |

j.p.s and JSWolf and DNSB
If y"all look at the description right under my Handle/Screen Name you will see "Green Grass Newbie" . That is a very kind description of where I'm at. Consequently, I keep to the KISS principle. |

I'd argue that for my use case Mobi with the "both" setting is better because the Amazon cloud accepts it and delivers KF8 to kindles that can use it (and given that my oldest kindle that I use is the 9th gen oasis...)

As a newbie myself have found azw3 the better choice, kfx to me is not worth the effort and to me I see no advantage to risk using it.
I would also recommend using negative margins when you convert. My tab keyboard doesn't have the correct brackets so won't post the code, you just add it to Styling when you convert. If you like reading series then use a metadata plug board to get PW4 to display in series order. 1 last thing search for Dalton maag or Charelnk fonts and give them a try. P.S. I like getting more words per page so if you don't mind the odd repeat of the last line try using using negative top and bottom margins. |
