Sideload New Oxford English Dictionary from Kindle

I side-loaded a copy of the New Oxford American Dictionary from a Kindle Paperwhite (Firmware Version Kindle 5.12.2 (3569610025)) using Calibre 5.4.2 to a Kindle Oasis (Firmware Version Kindle 5.13.2 (3661420039). The Kindle Paperwhite is registered. The Kindle Oasis is not.

Look-up doesn't work. When I highlight a word and navigate to the dictionary pop-up window, the message displayed is "No definition found." The Kindle Oasis does, however, indicate that the New Oxford American Dictionary is present and detected in the "Dictionaries" menu, and does appear as an option in the Dictionary pop-up box that appears when you highlight a word. I can tap that dictionary name ("The New Oxford American Dictionary") and a new menu aepars called "Select New Dictionary". "The New Oxford American Dictionary" appears in this menu with a check-mark next to it.

I have read the Dictionary FAQ and it doesn't address this topic. I would like to be able to use The New Oxford American Dictionary with the Unregistered, offline-only Kindle. Is this possible?

I suggest you register. The dictionary has DRM. I don't know if the dictionary will work on the Oasis after you register, but you can download dictionaries.

For privacy reasons, I prefer not to connect this device to the Internet or to register it with Amazon. So, I ended up removing the DRM from the dictionary using Calibre 4.2.3 and DeDRM Tools 6.8, and it worked. Now I can do dictionary look-up.

You can do what I do. I have a PW3 that's registered but I leave WiFi off. It means I can download any Kindle eBooks direct from Amazon. Given that you have one Kindle registered, I see no reason not to have the Oasis registered.

I don't get this extreme level of paranoia.
