Libra/Forma eInk color in the near future?
Today, I stumbled on the website below which has a tantalizing picture of eInk and Kobo with a mock-up of a Kobo Libra/Forma kind of device:
https://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/20...leido-screens/ Is this real and what the near future will offer us mortals? Anybody? |

The Kaleido screen is brighter than the older Triton, with better monochrome resolution at the compromise of making monochrome poorer brightness than regular monochrome, artefacts and very washed out colour.
It's very very poor just to read novels, which is the main selling point of eink over much cheaper LCD. It's very much a niche product and x10 production of almost none is still not much. It's not going to convince very many phone or tablet users to buy eink, nor very many people using eink for novels, which is the vast majority. The article is PR and tech fanboism. The Kaleido screen is more expensive than a regular eink, yet it would need to be in an 8" size and less than half the price of PW4 or Libra to actually sell many. So I can't see Kobo or Amazon selling many, once they are reviewed by ordinary people. |
