Download metadata and covers (Ctrl+D)

Sometimes when downloading metadata and covers for more than 1 epub I get the following error:

I use de metadata sources BOL_nl, Google and Google images

Using the "Edit metadata individually" option I get no errors.
I have the feeling it has to do with the situation that their is no metadata for one of the book available.

Any idee?

That's your antivirus decided the calibre worker process needs to be killed because it is contacting multiple websites in quick succession.

Hallo Kovid,
Sorry but my virusscanner did not cause the problem:
1) I did again a test with 26 books both with and without the virusscanner running. Both tests gave the same problem.
2) The problem started with version 5 of calibre. Version 4 never gave me this problem.
3) No hardware changes for more than a year.
4) windows 10 default virusscanner (defender).

Any more suggestions?

That error literally means something killed the worker process before it could do any work security software is the only thing I know of that does that.

I will do some more investigation. I am using a "normal" laptop with windows 10. It is funny that nobody else get this problem.
Is version 5 more critical on this subject?

Try Safe Mode and/or disabling Controlled Folder Access.

I cannot start in Safe Mode with WiFi so test not possible. Controlled Folder Access was already disabled. No luck so far.
I even with only 2 books I got the error.
Anything wrong with the BOL_NL plugin?

just installed 5.3.0 over 5.0.1 on my Ubuntu 18.04 LTS System. Never tried Metadata and Cover download before but it seem that it's not working. Tried on some books (not bulk modus) and on each book I get the same Error:
calibre, version 5.3.0 (German)

I started in debug mode but no further details. Can you tell me how to get more details about that error. I am not sure if my firewall blocks something or if there are really no metadata in the www.

I have the feeling that the problem has to do with the BOL_nl plugin:
Calibre 4 never created an error.
The problem started after the conversion to python 3.
When I remove the bol_nl plugin from the bulk selection option I get no error. (of course with less information found)

Did you get the update from the calibre site? Ubuntu repos are known to be 'problematic' Ψ³

Also try running calibre with no plugins ==>> calibre command

Yes, I get the update from calibre site. Started now without plugins and on an english book it worked. So technical it works. Seems the german books are not "findable".

Change the amazon server to amazon.de in metadata preferences for more german books.

Are you using the BOL.DE plugin? If you are it probably has the same problem as the BOL_NL plugin - disable/uninstall it and report problem here ==>> https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=140953

The BOL_xx plugins were early to the py3 party, maybe something changed after January 2020.
