Hi Everyone,
I just joined because I want to switch over to reading digital material. I read a great deal (usually 2-3 books at a time) and would truly love having all my reading materials with me all the time. I live in Westchester County, NY and Ft. Greene, Brooklyn. Is there anyone out there that would be willing to meet me to let me see and handle a Kindle? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Peter |

Hi Peter and welcome to the Forum. Used to hail from Bay Ridge but am now in VA. There's bound to be some Kindle owners in your area though who are on the Forum.
We do have MobileRead MeetUps. In fact, we had one here in Northern Virginia a few months back and everyone brought their toys. It was a treat. Anyway, keep posted and perhaps there will be a NYC MeetUp one of these days. |

Peca -- welcome to MobileRead.
I'd be glad to try and meet you on my next trip to Poughkeepsie or NYC, but those won't take place until sometime next year. I own both a Kindle and a Sony PRS-505 and both of them travel with me everywhere I go. I'm pretty sure that there are several MobileRead regulars who live near you, but I'm not sure which devices they use. I love having an electronic book reader. Travel is so much easier since I only have to carry my reader and if I run out of something to read, the bookstores are open 24 hours a day. If I buy from Amazon.com and I'm within an area served by their WhisperNet, I'm good to go. For all other situations, all I need is a PC and an Internet connection. Like you, I'm usually reading more than one book at a time. I do still read a large number of paper books because I'm in a book swapping group and want to keep participating. Right now I'm reading After Long Silence by Sherri Tepper (MMP), Club Dead by Charlaine Harris (Kindle), and Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson (Sony). All three fall into the SFF category, which is not the usual mix of books, but just what fell out at this time. I suppose you're aware that you can start reading digital books on your PC. It's not the same experience as holding a book, though. Again -- a warm welcome to MobileRead. |
