Width of sections
Ever since updating to v5.3, my various editor sections have resized themselves and I can't get them to stay when I adjust them. On the left I have File Browser and Checkpoints, in the middle I have the Editor, and on the right I have Preview Pane, Check Book, and Saved Searches. How can I adjust the various widths to what I prefer and have it "stick"?
Thanks! |

I updated from last version, 5.2 I'm guessing. Don't really know why it would have changed.

The section layout is stored in tweak_book_gui.json in the calibre config directory (Preferences->Miscellaneous->Open config directory). Check that it is being updated, permission are ok, etc.

The file is updating, permissions are fine. I'm not sure how to read the info in the file to see if dimensions of the different sections are being changed though.

The main window state is saved under "main_window_state" the actual data is not human readable however.

It's definitely something in 5.3. Out of curiosity, I went back to 5.2 and all the widths were fine, exactly as they were before.

In effect, version 5.3 does not save the custom sections layout.

Works for me with the following steps on windows:
1) Start calibre 2) Select a book 3) Click Edit book 4) Make the files browser panel wider 5) Quit the editor 6) Click Edit book again 7) Editor opens with the files browser panel the size I left it in step (4) |

I had already done those steps, and now I have repeated them again (to be safe), and I am sorry to say that it does not respect the custom widths.

Is te editor not shutting down cleanly on your systems? Run it as
calibre-debug -t from a command prompt |

After reinstalling 5.3, I have the same problem, on first open the widths are all changed, even if they were fine in 5.2 immediately before updating. This time it also said I needed to restart computer for changes to take effect, which didn't happen before.
I ran it in debug, and it opens editor with the "wrong" size again. Adjusting and trying again problem stays same. Would you want to see the command line window? I did save it in case. Following @BetterRed's suggestion does work, so I’ll go through and return settings to what they were and hope it keeps working. |
