WiFi icons in status bar are too similar

Please decide to do the simple way:
WiFi off: no icon
WiFi on: icon appears

Plus, this solution would not to clutter the status bar more, even when you have a lot of information shown.

I, personally, don't care. My status bar just displays page/total, chapter left and time

I won't repeat myself in details, but the gist of it is that a disappearing icon breaks the UX contract of the rest of the options, so, hard nope ;p.

As a shitty comparison: the Wi-Fi tile/icon on your phone doesn't disappear when it's off.

The only halfway viable option I can see is the airplane icon, which would work, but I find utterly it stupid. Then again, the status bar is hidden 99.942% of the time on my end, so I'm in the same boat as @pazos, and as this doesn't break UX, I'd be fine with it.

It is, really, because it does disappear on my Xiaomi phone...

I just thought if bookmark icon can be a disappearing one when the value is zero, it is possible also for WiFi icon. Nevermind, I will just disregard this feature then. But I still like status bar big time. I like those information at hand, and I wouldn't put book text so low on the display anyway. So for me, why to hide it?

You don't need to hide it entirely. You can show/hide any of the components as you like. Most of the people I know display the components they want all together, but that doesn't mean they display all the components. Some "icons" are just too specific for most users, like memory consumption.

That's a good point about the BM icon, I will murder that with fire, too (because not generating the icon but still generating a separator makes no sense).

As for the rest of the comment: to each their own.

I like distraction-less reading, which means a good old fashioned full-screen with extremely minimal margins, and no other information than the book on screen.

Which means my status bar is setup as a status *pane*, that I only display for a short while when necessary (generally, when time constraints are involved and I want to check the pages/time left in chapter).

I don't like disappearing indicators in the status bar. If I have chosen to show an indicator, I prefer to see it with any value (be it BM: 0 or Wifi-off).
