Import and Edit KOBO Collections
Hello,
I've looked through a number of threads and guides but I can't seem to make head of tail of what I need to do to work with collections. The problem is that I have my KOBO set up using the KOBO Extended plugin and my books now transfer over correctly and I can store series correctly. However, this has taken me some time to get right and I've ended up having to reload my books into the KOBO which means that they're all showing as unread. I need to change over 300 books to read and I know that I can do it manually on the KOBO but if I ever have to reload any book again I'm going to lose that information. Also, it takes forever to do that amount of books one at a time. When I review the KOBO on the device tab in Calibre, I see the column called Collections and in there I see two options, Im_Reading and Read. I don't know how to get that information into Calibre and, once it's in there, how to edit to mark them all as Read before exporting the metadata back to the KOBO. Is there a simple guide (and it really has to be simple!) anywhere that can help me do this please? Alternatively is there an easier way to accomplish this that I don't know about? Any wisdom gratefully received. Thanks! |

The Extended PI does reading status (after you make columns and configure the PI)
The Collections column in device view was there long before many Kobo's and Kindles. AFAIK all you can do is Look at and Sort that column ![]() Oh, you can search collections:<value to look for> I agree it would be ![]() |

The collections column in the device list is not editable for Kobo devices. There is a "Manage collections" option in the menu which displays a list of collections, but, changes made in it are not made to the device.
The collections shown are made up of collections on the device plus some virtual collections. The virtual collections are based on the filters and status you can see on the device. "Im_reading" is for books shown in the "Reading" filter, "Read" is for "Finished" and there are virtual collections for other things such as books borrowed from Overdrive or books loaded from Dropbox. For the reading status, you need my Kobo Utilities plugin. It can get the reading status from the device. Similar questions have been asked recently. I suggest looking at Transferring books from Kobo Aura H2O to Kobo Libra H20 for some discussion on this. If you have questions after reading that, ask away here or in the Kobo Utilities plugin thread. |
