Is there a way to disable downloads of a book in the calibre content server? I would like to be able to read books from the content server directly in the browser, but for there to be no download link/ability.
I'm trying to make it possible to share some documents with others as long as they are on my wifi (viewing them in their browsers), but for them to not easily be able to take the documents with them. Thanks! |

When you read a book it gets stored in the browsers cache anyway, so that it can be read offline as well. So disabling downloads is not going to prevent people from being able to take the books with them.

Those I am sharing with will only assume they can take the content with them if there is a download link; if there are a few people who go through the trouble of using the browser cache to keep the content, so be it. Just removing the download button (or making what it links to not work) is good enough for my purposes. So, is there no easy way of removing the download link? Thanks! And thanks for all your work on this Kovid. I've been benefiting from you for lots of years. |

No, there is no easy way to do. You could setup the calibre server behind a reverse proxy and have it 404 the download links.

The reverse proxy to 404 the download links would probably work perfectly. Thanks!

Your Calibre is such a great application!! Thanks a lot! i've been using it for a while and I just discover it has a server content application! Wow man! I know its not a lot but i will contribute right now!! It's not a ggod time at the world right now but reading a book anywhere using your app is great and helps forget a little this covid virus. I was looking for a check button □ allow download epub file but you are right. I was looking just a viewer that can publish epub files for some friends of school, just display mode. Thanks for all your work!! Alex! ![]() |
