Welcome, bandi!

Wouldn't you like to talk a little bit about yourself, like how do you like your Kindle, what do you hope to find here?

Hi Bandi,

I've been lurking here for quite awhile but this is only my 3rd posting. I live in NC as well. I have a Cybook and TWO Sony readers and ALMOST bought a refurbished Kindle yesterday (had it in my cart and everything) until my rational side got the better of me and told me I could better use the 330.00 on other things... like food, gas, more ebooks!

Welcome from a fellow tarheel (though technically I'm a transplant!)

Hello bandi! Welcome to MobileRead.

Of course, the best way to use your new Kindle is to read books. In addition to buying books from Amazon.com, you can download books (for free!) from here at MobileRead, from Feedbooks, and from ManyBooks. All three sites carry classics that are out of copyright and contemporary books that have been released with a Creative Commons copyright allowing free distribution. If you like fantasy or science fiction, go to the Baen Free Library and check out the 110 books that they give away.

There are a lot of other places on the Internet where you can find a book or two. Check out the messages here, since every time someone stumbles across a free book, the link gets posted.

Here at MobileRead you'll find lots of people with Kindles -- and some who use other readers -- to talk with. I've learned a lot about electronic books since I joined this site. I hope you will as well.

Elsi, Understand why you did'nt by your kindle. Things are very bad, My husband and son-in - law just got laid off. The ask me what I want, I just say ten bucks in my bank account is just great. I can by a buy a book. Since I was a child my books have been my safe haven. I wish I had A whole libary full of wonderfully bound books. But my kindle is a very nice way to have my small libarary.

If you have a kindle, an computer and an internet connection you have access to thousands of free books. They will keep you reading for years.

Join us in the MRBC (Mobileread Book club) where we select an ebook each month and then discuss it. The book for December is _The Hound of the Baskervilles_ freely downloadable here and at feedbooks.com.

Welcome.

I think it is based on how many posts you have made. However, I think there is a way to customize it too but I can't find it. Somewhere in the User CP I would think.
