remove a book from library, but not delete it

is there a way to do this.
if I simply remove the book folder from calibre library, it gives error message, the cover still appears in calibre.

I don't see an option to 'forget' this book.

Use save to disk to export it from the library, then use the remove books button.

If your database is damaged, repair it by right clicking the calibre library icon in the tool bar and choosing Library maintenance.

since I am just starting to use calibre for reading since highlighting has been implemented. Previously I converted all epubs to pdf and read from the pdf. I am seeing that adding a book makes a duplicate of book being added. one folder has name of book (source), the other name of author.

This is doubling space needed for books, and will add confusion to organization and backup having two copies of books. I already have a system for data backup, and syncing books with other devices. and, moving a book from one calibre library to another may be impossible. Moving book to another device and continuing with highlighting? Getting complicated. is there a way to tell calibre to use original copy of epub, maintain a single copy of books, and be able to move that copy between devices using the same data sync software I currently use?

I guess that I wondering how to manage the calibre system, since it is so different from I am used to.

how do others manage data, re: calibre. keep a separate folder of original copies of books? delete original after adding to calibre?

how about syncing to other computers? sync the entire calibre library folder? does that then require repairing the database?

some other routine?

Since most of books come from sites such as Kobo or Amazon, I remove the books after adding them to calibre. calibre stores the deDRMmed copies which I back up.

For my content server, I exit calibre on my laptop, stop the service on the server, sync the calibre library from my laptop to the server and then restart the service. This has not yet required repairing the database since that is only needed when something goes very wrong such as manual deletion of files from a calibre library.

Basically treat your calibre library as a black box and only make changes from calibre GUI or command line (advanced users). Do not use the OS tools to make changes since the database will not be aware of those changes.

For my other devices, I use the web interface offered by the content server to download books.

I move the Original to Source Archive (on another system) after adding.
NOT an approved method;
Also note: Only 1 copy of Calibre is running when I do this.
I do a Manual Sync
I share the Library folder. AGAIN Calibre is Not running
On the Target PC, I launch Calibre: Switch to the shared Library: Select books (any way you can normally do it): Right-click: Copy To Library: (the one on this PC.)
I have had very good success with a PULL. do not attempt to make change to the remote (that is what I found to have stability issues).

I copied a calibre library folder to all 3 devices. all libraries are set to 'share'.

I am using 'goodsync' to sync between the folders. I have yet to try the system, since I just set it up, i have yet to see if it will work.
