Preserving current search criteria when switching virtual libraries

Currently, when I switch between virtual libraries (keyboard shortcuts or clicking on a tab), it clears whatever criteria is currently in the search box.

If I typed it in, I can get the searches back with the searchbox history dropdown but not if I was building the search by clicking in the tag browser.

Are there any solutions other than copying it to clipboard before switching VLs?

I just click inside the search box and press enter. That adds the current search to search history.

I'd like to have all search expressions stored in search history automatically, no matter how they're created -- by typing, tag browser clicks, advanced search selection, similar books etc. I'd also like to have search history maintained on a per library basis.
