Question about book samples

I don't want them to default to my Paperwhite, but read and permanently delete right away on my android app. Is this possible, or does Amazon only "recognize" its devices as default destinations?

Frustrating that they (attempt to) download even after I've cleared the samples from my library!

If you request sample on Kindle, it will only download to that Kindle. If you request with the Android app, it will download to that app. If you request from amazon.com, then one of your Kindle apps/devices is default, and it will get sent there unless you change the destination to another device. You can change the default ‘device’ in Manage Your Content and Devices.

If you are using an app/device where it has not downloaded, it will appear in your Library and will download only if you tap/select it from your Library list (when it is showing ALL and not just DOWNLOADED).

Samples are part of your Library (cloud) so when you delete, you need to Delete Permanently if you no longer want them in your Library. Remove From Device only removes it from the device, and not from Library. You should be able to select this option with any (recent) Kindle or Kindle app.

I just looked at a book page on Amazon and if i want a sample I can specify which device it will be sent to. My guess is that will override my default device.

I wasn't sure if that worked like Kindle Prime books - devices only, no apps. However, my Sample destination clearly shows my phone now where it didn't before.

Absolutely, it will go wherever you specify.

I keep my default device set to my secondary device, not the main one. For some free books, I want to collect them, but not put them on my main device right now. If I remember, I send them to "kindle cloud" so they don't download anywhere. But if I forget, at least they aren't on my main device until I want them to be.
