Clara HD Authors duplicated

Hi Guys,

i wanted to rebuild all my calibre library and reset my kobo clara with new firmware...since i did that when i import a book on the Kobo and try a filter from Authors i got it duplicated...like for Terry Brooks
Terry - 2 books
Brooks - 2 books

i tried various thing to filter, removing comma, invert etc... nothing works so i comming here to ask help to expert

You probably have the authors as "LN, FN", such as "Brooks, Terry". Kobo treats the comma as the separator between author names. If you send them as "FN LN" or "FN1 LN1, "FN2 LN2", it will work correctly.

I tried to change tweaks but it does not change things on the Kobo

i configured the device template with : {authors} - {title},{series}-{series_index}

and the files on the device looks good:
Blish, James - Le Lendemain du jugement Dernier,Les apprentis sorciers-2.epub

could it be a settings on the koo.conf file? i didn't change anything here

argghhhh i don't understand.....
and to add one more thing all my file stored on the kobo have .kepub.epub at the end....

You are looking at the wrong thing. Kobo does not use the file name unless the book has no internal metadata. It does use the file name for formats such as TXT, CBR and CBZ. But for ePub, it uses the internal metadata.

Calibre will updated the metadata when sending the book to the device. You either have the author as "Blish, James" in calibre, or are using a metadata plugin to set the author to the author_sort when sending the book to the device.

If it is a metadata plugin, I recommend removing it. Or changing it to:

program: raw_list('authors', ', ')

That will populate the author when sending the book to the device in the format that Kobo likes.

If you are putting the author names into calibre as "LN, FN", then you will need to fix this before you will be able to get them onto a Kobo device properly. In general, it is better to have the author as how it is written and use the author_sort for "LN, FN". If you prefer that version displayed in the calibre library you can. You can use the Quality Check plugin to search for a fix authors with commas in the name.

i think I start to understand but I didn't use metadata plugin so maybe i did a change somewhere in Calibre....where can i found or add "program: raw_list('authors', ', ')" in Calibre?

That goes in the preferences on the "Metadata plugins" page. You select the book format and device, enter the code in the "Source template" and select author as the "Destination field". And press the "Save plugboard" button.

i added it but I still have the same issue...

ok got it!!!!when i imported my books, calibre took the authors name like they are on the files (eg. Adams, Douglas) and put it in Authors
if i change Adams, Douglas in Authors to Douglas Adams manually , author_sort stay to Adams, Douglas but now is i sync the sort by authors lastname on the kobo is ok
the challenge is now to change all entry....2000 books, any idea???

You could use the Quality Check plugin. Check metadata,check authors with commas to search for authors with commas in the name. Select the books returned by the search that you want to swap the names and then Fix, Swap Author FN LN <=> LN, FN.
