Update asks for very old version .msi before installtion will complete

I've just updated from 5.26 to 5.27 64 bit Windows 10 but before the update would complete it asked for the file calibre-64bit-5.23.0.msi which I had to download.
After I had done so the update to 5.27 finished correctly. What have I done to need version 5.23 before updating?

Updates need to Uninstall the old version.
Somehow something (3rd party cleaner?) removed the log the installer made, so it needed the installer for that version
