Sort by author and then publish date (multi-column sort)?

Not sure if calibre has multi-tier sorting like excel.

I can't get it to work. I click on Author(s) and then Published.

do it in reverse. It is a Bias applied from the previous sort.

{Date} then {Authors} will bias Authors in date order.
IIRC Calibre defaults allow 5 levels of bias. There is a Tweak you can reduce.

LOTS OF REALLY GOOD STUFF if used carefully.

As a new user, take a few and read (delay making adjustments for a bit) the descriptions. Some have very good reasons for NOT doing the change (reducing delays. Those can get us banned from useful metadata or trigger anti-SPAM/DOS measures at ISPs)

Calibre uses what is called a "stable sort". A stable sort is one that doesn't change the order of items that have equal sort keys. Thus clicking on Published then Author give you books by author where the books for each author are sorted by published.

@badbob001 - the View Manager plugin allows you to store multiple views with different sort orders, see Index of plugins
