spacing between paragraphs added after book conversion
I have a book I bought on Amazon, imported into Calibre, and then converted to epub to read on my Kobo reader.
In the conversion dialogue, the "remove spacing between paragraphs" is checked. Not even necessary in this case, since the book didn't originally contain any. Yet the resulting epub does have spacing between paragraphs. On my Kobo reader and in Calibre's reader it looks like in the first picture. However, if I look at the epub, the text is displayed fine, withouth space between the paragraphs, as in the second screenshot. Is there something in the CSS that could cause this that I should tweak manually? (I've added the contents of the css a a text file, just in case.) MTIA. |

Use the KindleUnpack plugin to shift from KF8 to ePub. Then in the Calibre editor, run epubcheck (if you don't have the plugin, get it) and then fix any errors that show. This will give you as close a conversion as possible.

The paragraphs are tagged with the classes s12 and c5. So look for those in the CSS and typically the spacing is caused by setting margin-top and/or margin-bottom to something not 0.

Thanks. But it's really weird. All it says for s12 is:
.s12{ -webkit-hyphens: none; font-size: 87.5000%; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; hyphens: none; letter-spacing: 0.0000em; margin-bottom: 0.0000%; margin-top: 0.0000%; padding-left: 0.0000%; padding-right: 0.0000%; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 3.0285%; text-transform: none; } Seems like a zero margin is specified already. And for c5 -- it says nothing! Just this: .c5{ } Also, incidentally, why the discrepancy in the preview of the epub editor and the epub reader within Calibre? |

It reads <div class="body" style="white-space: pre-wrap; line-break: strict;">. I can't think of any circumstances where I'd want to keep something like this. |

Thank you both.
I tried both remedies: removing the div tags seemed to help, and reimporting it from the Kindle and using the kindle unpack plugin also gave me a file without spacing between paragraphs. |
