Question New computer but old brain!

My trusty Windows Vista desktop has been showing signs of "old age" recently so I bought a Windows 10 laptop.

Apparently I am also showing signs of old age! I've been a member of the calibre forum for a long time. I've tweaked, poked and prodded calibre in too many ways for too many years!

I'm now having a tough time replicating all my settings from the old PC to the new laptop. Duplicating the calibre Libraries on the new PC was easy, but setting up the "look and feel" I'm used to is not very easy!

Is there a file (or files) tucked away that will ease the pain of setting up calibre on a new computer?

Thanks,
Marty

Export(/Import) on your old Vista would have done it all (packaged the needed stuff) for (Export/)Import on the new PC. That would have done all Settings, PI's... as well as all Known (on the switch list)
If you have made changes to the New Calibre, running this is NOT a good idea as you will lose those.

20 Questions How did you make your new library? A simple copy of the Library folder? (18 questions spare )

theducks,

Perfect occasion for !

Yep, I spent about 2-hours making changes to the tab browser, toolbars, plugins, some icons, etc., so it is definitely too late for an easy Export/Import. I'd say that I'm about 95% the same as on my old Vista.

It's some really minor things I can't locate the "how-to". For example, if I remember correctly (I say that a lot), the cover size (like 600 x 800) has been showing on the book cover on the metadata page "forever", but it was an addition to the main screen Book Details pane. Can't figure out how to activate it on the pane.

Yes, the libraries were a simple copy/paste from Vista to Win-10. Worked easily! (A 20 Questions reference indicates AGE )

Take care of yourself ...

Marty

Welcome to older age.

I won't tell you how many things 'hide' if I turn my head just a bit too far . Severe frustration for someone who was mechanical competent. That I can still do, takes 3 times longer. I don't even think about using my rotating saws.
Even keyboarding is a pain (I never had the fine dexterity to touch type )

I've moved my settings and libraries to different devices multiple times. The easiest way, for me, is to copy over the library folder AND the configuration folder (usually located at User/AppData/Roaming, the whole folder named calibre should be copied over in one piece). So far it has always worked perfectly.

Well, as to mechanical competency, you're better than me, no matter your age. I've always been totally mechanically dumb. Like, changing a light bulb is an effort for me. Building/repairing something with my own hands is absolutely impossible. Recently I had to call over my brother-in-law to drill a small hole into my bedroom door for my cats. No telling what might have happened if I had touched that drill myself... probably would have only one arm now.
