Cleaning the screen
I've had my Kobo Aura HD for several years now, and the edges of the screen are starting to get a little grimy. A microfiber cloth alone doesn't really clean it.
I have some cleaner meant for LCD monitors and cell phones. Is it safe to use on an eInk screen? ![]() |

I have. I spray a microfiber cloth with the cleaner and then go at the corners.

For safety's sake, spray some of the cleaner on a microfibre cloth and carefully clean a very small corner of the screen and bezel. If that goes okay, follow jrkzok's instructions.
I ran into a spray cleaner for monitors that was intended for use on glass/metal surfaces and did nasties to a co-worker's screen plastic protector on his phone. |

I'm actually generally using pure Isopropyl alcohol (which is usually the main ingredient in these screen cleaner mix), so, yeah, you should be okay.
As was mentioned, humidify the cloth, not the screen, and that's it. (If you do go w/ high concentration alcohol, just be aware that it will happily dissolve some glues ^^. Like, say, the one under the Forma's soft-touch layer on the "handle". (Granted, I soaked it). Oops. ![]() Last edited by NiLuJe; 06-22-2020 at 05:12 PM. |

What NILuJe said. Buy Isopropanol 10% - 30 % in the apothecary. It‘s cheap and one liter of this delute alcohol will last for the lifetime of more than one ereader. I also use this in a mix of 30/70 % Isopropanol/distilled water to clean my old vinyl records.

I use 90% after colds & flu etc. To get the corners Normally I use a Very Soft BABY Toothbrush. Then clean with those wipes. Seems like dust migrates to the corners & edges

Damp Qtip generally gets corners pretty well. If you really have stuff stuck in there, I, like Barbara1955 like to use a soft baby toothbrush (it was probably her who suggested it in the first place). I generally use Huggies wipes to wipe my electronics, but switched to Clorox wipes for the Iphone and would use it for ereader if that went out anywhere. I haven't been taking my ereaders with me for some months because I never go out and most medical appointments have been done over the phone.

I've had my H2O for almost 6 years. I've never used any kind of cleaning solution. The only wet solution I've used has been water. Most of the time, a microfiber cloth does the job. My corners are quite clean. I seem to manage to not get gunk on the sides of the screen.

I never use any sprays to clean my devices. A slightly damp soft rag works for smudges and fingerprints. A thin soft toothbrush, q-tip, or small paintbrush, gets dust out of corners on the readers with raised bezels. I keep eyeglass wipes all over the house, and use them after a damp cloth if needed. These aren't wet, they are dry microfiber cloths. My current readers have flush screens, so no corners to trap dust.
I wipe my iPhone down with anti-septic wipes, but never spray anything on any of my iDevices or readers. They don't get "dirty", and I don't trust most sprays. |

My wife read some covid scare story and sprayed sanitiser onto her smartphone screen. Cost £150 to replace the phone after the spray got into the front speaker and ruined it. Stick to damp microfibre cloths. |

![]() I do wash my hands several times per day, and have my hands in soapy water a few times a day as well. Never had Covid, haven't had the flu in 5 years. Don't get all stressed about germs, even these last few months. We've been careful, but not obsessed. |
