Indentation issue in french dialogs
I am sure to have seen this problem already submitted here but I can't find
it again, unfortunately. For books that I convert from epub to kepub either via KoboTouchExtended 3.2.15 or kepubify 3.1.4 , some lines in dialogues are not left aligned after the leading hyphen i.e. I have an extra space ( kobo fw 4.15.12920 or 4.17 ) I have tried with an English book and it is correctly converted. This problem occurs only in french dialogues since we use the '-' hyphen char to indent the lines, not the double quotes like in English . At first, I thought it was for the last line of the dialogue or sentences longer than 3 lines, but now I have samples where it is for 2 lines long sentences in the middle of the dialog , e.g : - comment allez-vous ? - bien, merci. Et vous ? - moi aussi. ^^ 2 spaces ( or so ) instead of one after the - Same problem whatever font is used, even default editor font, and whatever the source of the original epub. I am not even sure it is related with hyphenation since the *same* leading word will be sometimes correctly justified in the *same* dialogue. The only mode that clears this problem is to be in completely "disable justification" mode ( middle icon in kobo menu ) which is not good at all, since no lines are *right* justified ( dialogues or 'normal' lines ) . I also tried in a last attempt to load the french hyphenation dictionnary of JS Wolf , to no avail. Thanks Joss |

This has been discussed a few times in the Kobo forum (where this should have been posted). Basically, it doesn't work properly for languages that use something other than quotation marks. There have been a few things tried, some seemed to work better than others, but, I don't think anything was perfect. You can look in the Kobo forum for the details.

Thank you for your answer.
I finally found this previous thread ( KEPUB and non-breaking space ) https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...ghlight=dialog This seems very complex and subtle. I thought there was an easy solution or patch. I think I will have to live with this issue. |
