Searching

This is probably a simple question, but, I need help understanding the current search functionality.

In the past, if I had 10,000 books and searched titles for 'foo' the main grid would only display those books that matched.

When I do that now, all the books are still displayed, and the selected book is the first one that matched. Okay, but I can't seem to "search next" functionality. If press the search button, I'm stuck on the first occurrence.

So, what should I be doing differently?

(running calibre v4.19 under linux mint 19.3)

See the Sticky Search is showing all books with some highlighted! How do I fix this?

You seem to be running in 'Highlight' mode.
Preferences: Searching: remove tick next to highlight mode.
Option: show quick toggle button (bars with or without a slash. depends on mode)

Thanks. Your insight was right on the mark. Search now works the way I expect/remember.

The link explanation was especially helpful. I had reinstalled the os earlier this year and only recently reinstalled the find duplicates plugin. I'm sure, because of the timing, that it was the problem. I now know to reset the "Highlight search results" option after using the find duplicates plug in.
