changes in Amazon US search ???
I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but giving it a try...

Over the last three or four days, I've had a disturbing change happen in Amazon US search in Content and Devices (web) - it seems to have gone from an implicit "and" to an implicit "or" when I enter both an author's first and last names.

For example, if I enter Faye Kellerman, where I used to just get the books I have by Faye Kellerman, now I get books by Faye Kellerman, Jonathan Kellerman, Audrey Faye, Faye Adams, etc... This is obviously not what I want. I've tried three different browsers (Chrome, Firefox and IE), and also rebooted my computer. I also tried it at work yesterday in Chrome, and had the same problem.

I don't see the same problem in Amazon UK Content and Devices - there I still just get Faye Kellerman titles, and not all the others.

I've looked for a "search settings" where I might have somehow mistakenly changed a default setting, but can't find one. I also tried to search for an answer for this in MR forums, and on the Internet, but it's hard to choose keywords that don't give way way too many posts and threads.

Is anyone else having this problem? Any thoughts for how to fix it? I have a LOT of Kindle books, so I really need to be able to be specific about the author sometimes.

I'm seeing the same thing. A search for "Molly Fader" (no quotes) brings back that name, as well as Molly Mills, Molly Jebber, and surprisingly, Jennifer Beckstrand.

Searching using only the last name are accurate.

I'm in the U.S. and just tried searching on Faye Kellerman--no quotes and the first two pages of results were all Faye Kellerman books, with only one Jonathan Kellerman book thrown in toward the bottom of page two, so maybe Amazon has fixed the problem. (I'm using Firefox for what it's worth.)

The results will be ordered by purchase date not by closest match.

When I used quotes, search found nothing.

Just to clarify...this is searching at Content & Devices, through my own books. Not a search of the Kindle store.

Are you searching in Content and Devices (i.e. books you own) or just for Faye Kellerman books in Kindle. The search in Kindle works fine - it's when searching in Contect and Devices that the problem has cropped up. And, I just tried it again, and still having the same problem...

Yes, that is true, they are ordered by purchase date, once you search on the author, but that's not the problem I'm seeing. The problem is that the author search is now behaving as an "OR" - i.e. Faye OR Kellerman, and not as an "AND" - i.e. Faye AND Kellerman. And clearly in searching for an author, one wants it to be the latter, and not the former.

Yse, I agree, last name search works fine. But if the last name is kind of common (Smith, Jones, Roberts, etc.) then it's still not terribly helpful. (I have a lot of Kindle books...)

First name alone also works, but again, if it's a common first name, the results can still be pretty messy.

But at least I'm not going crazy - someone else is seeing it...

Amazon UK shows "promoted" and non-kindle results when you search for an author even under Kindle. It's been bad for months.
Not as bad as Google, it's now terrible.

So you think the same people who code the Kindle content pages also code the search perimeters for the entire Amazon site?

Product search has always been a very "broad" endeavor. But it has nothing to do with searching through a person's own Kindle content.

Okay, now that we all agree that we are talking about search in Content and Devices, does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this. I've tried to do some Boolean searches in the search box, and that doesn't seem to work. And, I don't want to have to add Boolean search operators every time I search my own books anyway.

And as I said in my first post, when I try to Google the problem, it just gives bazillions of results because I can't think of any keywords that aren't super common.

Any one have any thoughts?

If not, I may get desperate enough to try to get help from Amazon help, and be hopeful it goes a little better than this thread...
