battery drains when e-reader is in sleep mode
HI,
I have searched the forum but I did not find any thread on the topic for this specific model. I have a Kobo AURA E2 and since 3/4 months I have a problem with his battery. Everything started with a firmware update. Before the update the battery was usually lasting around 4 weeks. After the update I get it discharged in 5-6 days. I keep wi-fi off and the light always on at 1%. I have waited for a new upgrade (I was sure it was a bug) but it did not solve the problem and I have also tried with a factory reset. Any suggestion? Thanks! |

Just to check, do you use a Sleep Cover?
I had a similar issue with my Clara, and it seemed that the cover was loose, probably switching on and off the reader multiple times running the battery down. |

Does it get stored around strong (ish) magnets? Or smart covers for other devices?

Nope! No magnets, nuclear plants or similar in the surroundings!

A "bad" book can cause battery-drain and other oddities. Did you add or recently open a new book? Try removing books. The drain might be unrelated to the FW upgrade.

That happened to my once with one of my Sony readers. The reader drained overnight. Once I finished reading the book I had most recently acquired and removed it from the ereader, battery usage went back to normal.

Thanks for all the answers.
I usually keep the e-reader clean but to be sure I have removed almost all the books. I have kept only the two that I'm reading at the moment and that I bought after the problem started. I'll seevery soon if that solved the issue. |

Why not just turn sleep mode off - problem solved. I have never used sleep mode on any of my Kobo's.

There's no such thing as "turning sleep mode off".
You either let it sleep, or you shut it down. What you *can* disable is the smart cover feature, which is essentially a wireless power button that will only ever trigger a sleep or wakeup. |

I've noticed my Clara (with smart cover and automatic sleep/wake) will drain mysteriously if just leaned up against a large steel bookend for a couple of days. If I place it further down the line between some books it's fine. |

The last is generally when the problems are seen. The errors in the book probably are triggering problems that leave background tasks using resources. If this is the issue, then restarting the device will fix things until the problem book is opened again. The other two times, could also cause this, but seem to be less likely to trigger the problems. But, if they do, again, restarting the device should stop the task using power. Quote:
