Fast way to move between neoreader and other apps
I read comics on a Nova Pro in Neoreader in French. I have a stardict dictionary that Onyx Dict cannot open. Hoever, Goldendict can open it. So I use the navigation ball to change to goldendict, but it takes 3 taps to get to goldendict. It's slow.
Also I cannot use the navigation ball to change back directly from goldendict to neoreader without going via the library. For some reason neoreader does not appear in the last used apps button in the navigation ball. Even if I could, it would still take 3 taps to get back. So at the moment, it takes at least 6 taps to look up a word in Goldendict and return to neoreader. So I would like to either 1) speed up moving between neoreader and goldendict via the navigation ball, or 2) use a faster 3rd party task changing app. So does anyone know a faster way to move between neoreader and other apps using the nav ball? Also, can anyone recommend a good task changing app that works well on the Onyx. In addition, does anyone have any ideas how I can make Onyx Dict read the dictionary? It's the Larousse Multidico (conjugaisons) on this page: https://sites.google.com/site/gtongu...t-dictionaries It works in Goldendict, and it is a valid stardict format (I decompiled it with the stardict viewer). I'd try reconverting it via Penelope but I don't have Linux. |

Is there a particular reason why you need to use the native NeoReader app?
I do use it for some things, particularly when I'm reading books in English. However, when I'm reading books in Chinese or Japanese, I usually use Moon+ Reader Pro. You can select which app or dictionary which you want it to use to look up a word on both a short press and a long press. I have it set to use GoldenDict to look up selected text on a short press. It will then look for the selected text in all of my installed dictionaries in GoldenDict. To get back to the book I am reading, I then simply press the back button or the back icon. Far simpler. I have Moon+ Reader configured to use a different app on a long press. Very convenient. Although I could be mistaken, I don't even think that you need the Pro version to do all that. I believe it works on the free version. I just like to support useful apps. |

If there was a 3rd party app as good as neoreader at reading comics on a small screen, but which could call goldendict, that would also be a solution. But Neoreader is really excellent. The neoreader software on Onyx is perhaps more exceptional than the hardware. BTW I do have Moonreader, and use it for the dark reverse mode which Neoreader lacks, when I read normal text books. I will contact Onyx and suggest they add to neoreader the ability to call other dictionaries, and also to add a dark inverted mode. Last edited by Pajamaman; 04-10-2020 at 08:33 AM. |

Button Savior would work better than the nave ball if neoreader shows up on the task list, but it requires rooting, which is not something I am aware is easy to do in Android 6.

I discovered it is possible to add a particular app as one of the options on the nav ball shortcuts. You do it in nav ball config. This method is faster than going via recent tasks.
You cannot add neoreader. For tht you must go via the home page (AFAIK). |

This is something I believe Onyx Boox should improve. The nav ball has been much better designed now, except we can't go directly to Neoreader.

The fact I still can’t go back directly to the note that I am currently working on drives me nuts over and over and over. I was hoping this would be fixed already but alas it as not. I am still holding out hope that it will in the future. I just don’t see how it can’t be! They have to be aware of it. Maybe it is harder to do than I think it is.

That's what I thought. Send this if you want it to change.
---------------------- sales@onyx-international.com subject: Neoreader in nav ball please Dear Onyx, Please add Neoreader to the navball. At the moment, to get to Neoreader I must choose HOME and then re-choose the book I am reading in the Library. I want to be able to access neoreader in the nav ball in two ways 1. via Recent Apps, and, 2. as a "Run App" link (in the same way I can add all 3rd apps to the nav ball). This is a modification that many people want. ------------------ |

It's a very old problem, at least 2 years old. I guess it's a very challaging problem for the Onyx team.

Maybe Neoreader is integrated into the OS to such an extent that it cannot be called like a normal app. Hard to believe, but...
To be fair, Onyx is not Amazon, with much smaller support and dev resources. And they develop so much more... I had to wait about a year or so for Onyx to fix a touch-screen bug which I figured was software. They did fix it, but it took a while. I suppose they have their priorities and a long todo list. The Poke bug was limited to one device. Also I think Onyx make most of their money from regular early adopters who buy the latest model. They do support their devices with bug fixes, but its a balance. Also, once the device is no longer the latest Android version, they stop updating the FW. So if you want something fixed, contact them regularly while it's still 'new'. |

I've discovered yet another "trick" to speed up the process. To get back to Neoreader from a 3rd party app, double-click the nav ball and it takes you back to the library. Then click the book.
So the current process is: from neoreader: click navball, click 3rd party app. from 3rd party app: double-click nav ball, click book. The process is now 4 clicks instead of six. I find that acceptable. Including Neoreader as a 3rd party app in the nav ball would take the same number of clicks. I found the nav ball double-click trick from another user. How did he find it? Trial and error. How many other undocumented features are there? If it's in the manual, I missed it. |

I've discovered yet another "trick" to speed up the process, and probably the last one.
It seems if you call a 3rd party app via nav ball from neoreader, once you are in the 3rd party app and do a back, it takes you back to neoreader. So no reason to go via the home screen. So the probably final process is: from neoreader: click navball, click 3rd party app. from 3rd party: click back. The process is now just 3 clicks! WHOOSH. |
