My Voyage battery is dying a slow death
This is my first experience with this as previously I'd always upgraded to something new before I had any battery problems with an ereader. I'd been meaning to update to an Oasis but never got around to it, mostly because it didn't have the haptic press buttons that I love on the Voyage.
The Voyage used to last for weeks on a charge. Now it's days, at the most. There's a certain feeling to opening your ereader to see that dead battery symbol on the screen. I'll have to upgrade eventually, or find another Voyage to buy, but for now I'll probably keep using this one, mostly because of inertia (and the haptic buttons). I've now added making sure to plug in my ereader every day or two to my list of dailies and might just keep that going until I can't anymore. |

I think it is relatively easy to open up the Voyage and remove the back (and reassemble). You might look into DIY battery replacement.
My Voyage was bricked trying to install a recent update. I have replaced it with a Paperwhite (20% trade in discount and currently running $99 markdown). I gave my ‘spare’ Voyage to my sister the week before mine bricked itself. So it goes... |

Here is a rather popular site to get a new battery and it comes with tools and has a video showing how to replace the battery.

When the battery runs down on my Voyage I'll definitely replace the battery. It looks like the simplest eReader to open that I've seen. You just have to remove the little top "panel," removed four screws and slide th back down slightly and remove it. Just be careful when gently removing the old battery. You don't want to pry too hard, so take your time there.
Good clear video on this (from New Power, who also sells the battery, but you may find a better price somewhere else). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFqBrIE4mT0 Many people sell Voyage batteries on eBay. They're even sold on Amazon. |

Thank you for the links. This is invaluable info for those of us Voyage (plus a spare) diehards!

I replaced a battery in my Paperwhite. I had planned to buy the battery from Newpower99 since they'd been around for so long and maintained a good reputation. Instead I foolishly bought a cheap battery, about 1/10the price, and installed it. It was difficult enough to to do that I didn't want to do it again so when the new battery wasn't much better than the old battery I gave the Paperwhite to a friend.
I have read that it's much easier to replace a Voyage battery. My Voyage battery was worse than that Paperwhite battery. It got so it only lasted a day even when I didn't use it. I decided I wasn't interested enough in it to change the battery so I gave it to another friend. I always preferred the Paperwhite to the Voyage because I was always accidentally turning pages without meaning to on the Voyage. Anyway if you decide to do it I'd take JSWolf's advice and get the battery from Newpower99. Barry |

Yea, My Voyage battery has seen better days. Recently Woot had refurb Voyages on sale for 69 bucks, I should have bought one but I'm not sure they come with a new battery or if they are just checked to see if they are in working order.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...oyage&_sacat=0 This one is supposed to be "Manufacturer Refurbished" and it does look like it comes in the Amazon brown box. $58. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Kindle-Voya...s5bEfU2U9vZJKg I've got a feeling these aren't coming back to Woot. If you're looking at these be careful of the one that says "non-registerable." Not sure how they can call that "refurbished." |

I called Amazon about an older refurbished Kindle of some type a few years ago and asked about the battery. They don't put new batteries in them, according to the person I talked to unless the old ones are noticeably bad. I think they said something like 60% of expected life but I might remember that wrong.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy a newish Kindle refurbished but for an older one I'd make sure refunds were easy just in case. I have bought quite a few things from Woot over the years and I've never had a problem. It's been a while and I don't recall if any of them were refurbished. I tend to buy refurbished things only when they're very cheap. For a few dollars more I'll get something new. Barry |

My like new $69 woot voyage is doing fine 6 months later. I use it a lot, so I end up charging it once a week. But if I let it sit, it holds a charge. When I bought it I was expecting a suboptimal battery, but got a good one.

Apple does put in a new battery for a refurbished iPhone or iPad.
