Help. Cannot get my Aura 2 recognized by my computers

I have a Kobo Aura 2 and set it up with a few of my own books. That was a while ago now and now I cannot seem to get the Aura 2 recognized by either my Mac or Windows computer????

On my Mac, I have checked Privacy settings and folders etc is set to be allowed
I have the Kobo app and follow the basic routine, start the app, plug in the device (tried 3 difference cables) click the "connect" on the Aura 2 screen and then nothing. I look in finder and its not there!!??

I have tried shutting down the computer and the reader

Likewise I do basically the same on my windows computer and I cannot see it in file explorer

How can I load books on to the reader?

any thoughts or advice? thanks

have you tried a different cable?

if it fails on multiple cables & with multiple computers, that suggests a device fault

yes, as stated I did try 3 different cables

can I use wifi to send book to my Aura 2 (the device has wifi but I have no idea how to do this)

sorry, i missed that.

if the connect to box is appearing then that cable is "working" in that device has detected a computer
dunno much about mac but with windows it should just work. a new device will appear in "this PC" once to tap to accept the connect to option
do you hear the chime sound effect that windows plays when a new USb device is detected
and does the kobo display change to say connected
other then saying look in device manager, and try every available USB port on computer, I am out of ideas.

maybe the usb socket the kobo is damaged
you may be able to add books wirelessly using the kobo browser as a workaround ( put them into a location you can browse to e.g. dropbox )

or via SD card if aura 2 has one

if you have not already tried factory reset on the kobo - that may be worth doing

tried a 4th cable and it worked! very surprised!
never knew micro USB cables were so unreliable
lucky for me my cameras use them and I have a lot of micro usb cables

it may be that the device socket is sensitive to how far the cable is pushed in - too far or not far enough causes a fail ?

you could experiment, or you could quit while you are winning ( I would ! ) and label that working cable as " my kobo cable "

Try plugging it into a different port or rebooting the computer when it breaks. I've had this issue with mine, and it would render the port which it stops working in unusable until a computer reboot.

I've had that happen with a portable hard drive.
