importing backup

Due to some type of glitch in getting Google books through ADE 2.0 and into Calibre with the help of Alf, my books were not able to be opened. After lots of back and forth suggestions, I finally had to create a new user on my laptop, reinstall Calibre and ADE and Alfs tools and voila, all the books are now happy and able to be opened in Calibre. Before doing this, I uninstalled ADE and Calibre on my previous user profile to eliminate any problems, after exporting my Calibre library.

So now i have a clean install of everything and have added the Google books. Everything is readable. I need to import my backup of my old books, but is it going to override the new library or merge?

Last time I moved a library to a new computer I did something wrong and ended up losing ALL my metadata on 1000+ books so I want to make sure that doesn't happen again! Thanks

Hey, just bumping this up in hopes someone can answer it. If I import a library into another installation of Calibre with existing books, do they merge, replace or act as 2 libraries?

I would suggest doing a file backup of your new library and then renaming your new library. After that, then try importing the old library.
