Is Forma set to pick up wifi signal on just frequency band B, or also G & N?
On the Kobo Forma, is it set to only pick up a signal on b, or is it open on frequency bands g and n too?

B, g n are not frequency bands.
2.4 and 5 GHz are the bands, and there are channels within each band. Pretty sure kobo is only 2.4 GHz though, 5ghz is not supported. That is also the case with my Moto g6 play phone. Yet my TV sees both bands as do all my other devices OTOH, how fast does an e reader wifi need to be. The slower 2.4 band is fit for purpose Last edited by stumped; 05-02-2020 at 12:54 AM. |

That’s right, and b/g/n are protocols. (The latest protocol is 802.11ax with the snappy moniker, WiFi 6) So the Kobo Forma would connect to the fastest protocol available: b, g, or n. But from what I’ve read, only at 2.4GHz speeds. A newer router configured for the highest speed possible might be invisible to the Kobo unless the router has multiple band support. My router is WiFi 6 and broadcasts on all bands for full compatibility. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Except almost no client uses "WiFi 6", so it's not used. If you need faster than typical 2.4GHz WiFi, probably you need a 1 Gbps Ethernet cable. At shorter distances than 100m it may work on original Cat5. The Cat5e is sufficient.
WiFi is a shared spectrum. So neighbours WiFi will slow yours. The faster modes use either 3 channels and fastest uses all the channels. Coverage and penetration of the higher WiFi band is terrible compared to 2.4 GHz. Also slower devices and further away (lower signal) devices, baby monitors, Bluetooth, drones, wireless cameras etc all slow WiFi as do neighbours. Most users will see little change with a WiFi 6 router or Airpoint. Without compatible hardware and software for WiFi 6 in the laptop / phone / tablet / gadget / ereader you see NO advantage with WiFi 6. If there is no interference, 2.4 GHz n can be faster than 5.8 GHz or WiFi 6. |

a super fast connenction is not needed for a typical 1Mb book download
making it 2.4Ghz only probably made it a few cents cheaper to manufacture |
