(help) Cannot change e-book viewer kb shortcuts
Hello everyone;
Sounds.. basic, but i can't figure it out and Google has not been of help. I wish to change the default keyboard shortcuts for Calibre's e-book viewer, but as per title, i can't. Again, specifically for the viewer module, not calibre per se. Going to 'Preferences' -> 'Keyboard Shortcuts' and switching from default to custom doesn't seem to do anything, be it for no key or another key. No changes that i make are saved; the viewer sticks to the default shortcuts no matter what. - Windows 10 Ent, 64bit, admin account. - the executable was in 'read only' status, have enabled writing. - the executable had rather strict permissions, have taken ownership and given both admin (me) and users (me) full control. - have also tried telling it to store settings outside ebooks, in case some config file popped up, but not seeing any. With said option ticked or unticked. Please help me, it's as mentioned ridiculously basic, but.. ![]() Last edited by Aenra; 04-22-2020 at 04:53 PM. |

You're correct, i'm still on 3.36. Came to a point where all this feature bloating (resulting in more and more time spent tweaking), became rather tiring; so i stopped "updating", never saw the point to put it kindly. Had i kept my original files, i'd have stopped "updating" years back ![]() Now regarding your suggestion, tried that myself as it works similarly with Calibre, but no go. The instant i click elsewhere, reverts to defaults. It just doesn't keep the changes, at all. |

Addendum as i cannot edit the previous post:
Am trying to set shortcuts to 'None', as i do in Calibre main. This is what's problematic. Only just occured to me, that 'none' and 'other' may function or be perceived differently, sorry folks. Tried a different shortcut, works just fine. Problem is, i need set them to 'none'. Ideally anyway. (and again, apologies for not having specified, didn't think there'd be a difference between the two) Last edited by BetterRed; 04-23-2020 at 07:05 AM. Reason: undeleted - lost track of storyline |

The keyboard customisations are stored in the <calibre config>\shortcuts\viewer.plist file. Where <calibre config> is the folder opened when you press the library manager Preferences->Miscellaneous->Open calibre configuration directory button.
I suspect that file is not being created/updated for some reason. Could be your antivirus settings, or Windows Protected Folders settings. Exclude the <calibre config> from both. BR |

Don't know why the viewer doesn't cooperate, but manually editing the .plist with Notepad+ works, all shortcuts successfully set to 'none'. Again, much obliged for the tip ![]() |
