Long taps are interpreted as short taps or not interpreted.
Hi,

On my aura HD, a lot of long taps on a word to open the dictionary are interpreted as short taps (a page is turned) or not considered...

It's happen with all firwmares... Have you got a idea of the problem? is there a setting to change the delay to try a another value or verify mine?

Yes, I wanted to say "touch and hold" not "long tap". I'm french with a bad level in english .

Is it happening in any particular location? Or book format? There is a long standing bug in epubs with the last word in a paragraph that goes over the page if there is only one punctuation mark at the end. A long press on that will always turn the page or open the menu depending on what you tap zones are. There are some other affects related to this as well.

Other than that, make sure you clean under the edge of the bezel. If there is anything stuck there, it can block the IR beams and the touch doesn't work properly.

It's happening on every word with or without punctuation after. I only use epubs.

I noticed one thing : if I turn a page and touch and hold a word just after, there no problem. If I wait few seconds (not 15 or 20 but something like 1 minute), it happens...
It is as if the reader is on standby for the search of words but not to turn the pages .

Thank you very much for your return. I thought I was the only one concerned !

So it mean that it could be a real bug brought a few firmwares ago and still revelant.

Now it could be good to know if it affects only Aura HD or only Mark 4 or all devices... We need the return of different types of users (according to the material used) to help devellopers to find the reason; my friends from the forum : can you test it on your kobo readers and give us the result ?

I advise you to convert them to kepub format, for calibre there is a plugin: "Kobo Utilities" on purpose, you will have less problems of this type.

I've just tried to convert an epub to kepub and it's the same... if I wait a long time (70 secondes for example), I can't select a word to open the dictionary. I really think there is a bug with aura HD (or all marks 4 models or all devices?) : if you stay few seconds on a page, the only thing you can do is to turn to previous or next page, the dictionary access seems to be asleep.

I would really like to know if other people encounter the same problem with their devices (aura HD or not).

What firmware version did it start in? Knowing this will help to get it fixed.

It's difficult to answer you about the version, it's few firmwares ago (1 or 2 years ago?)... it could be good to have the feedbacks of other people.

I consider that there have been more than a "few" firmware versions released in the last two years. And, if it has been happening for two years, I'm even more confused about why it doesn't seem to have been mentioned before. Or is my memory failing me?

Kobo Glo, latest firmware (stock). 1.8mm font , 3mm line spacing, tiny margins.

I've always had to be very deliberate and precise when highlighting a word for dictionary. I am reluctant to highlight a word near the edges of the screen as it will always page on the first attempt, sometimes it'll whizz past several pages, I memorise the page number prior to highlighting a word.

Highlighting is always a hope and pray thing at the edges but more consistent in the center.

Perhaps page turn could be activated in blank space only, i.e. between the lines being sensed only, don't know if that's feasible as I've no knowledge of this hardware.

Try setting page turns to swipe and see if that works better.
