convert comics from different format than usual

I have comics of a different format from the usual formats used for comics (CBR-CBZ) and I would like to convert them first to epub, and then convert them to kepub with kepubify. I tried with Caliber to convert to epub and put the EPUB file directly into the kobo, the images appear smaller and it is very slow to load the book and turn the pages. after converting to kepub, the pages are not visible at all, they are all blank. (I have selected the resolution of the output as the one of the kindle paperwhite 3 since it is the same as that of the Kobo Clara HD)

They images are smaller because they have been reduced in size. What you want is to set your output profile to Tablet. Tablet will not resize images. That's what you want. Then try the conversions again and see what happens.

What format are the comics in? The source format might explain the issues.

And how are you converting to kepub at the moment? If you have valid epubs, it is unlikely that kepubify will produce a different result.

Use this to see what format is in the azw3

A lot of the time, the azw3 file contains the epub within it.
If it's an epub then convert to kepub as directed up above.

A thing I do with AZW and ePub comics is to export them as ZIP files from Calibre and process them with command line tools: ImageMagick if I want to resize or convert to greyscale, optipng and jpegtran to optimize files. Repack as a CBZ and import back into Calibre. I keep both the original and the procesed formats in my library. Not the most efficient and there's probably an all-in-one tool out there that can do it more easily but this has worked for me for years.
