Kindle for iOS 6.28 user interface changes

It looks like user interface changes are not just coming to the e-ink Kindles. Kindle for iOS version 6.28 released today has:

Easily access all settings related to your reading in the updated Aa menu.
When reading in continuous scroll, use a vertical navigation bar to explore your book without losing your place.
Use the new Reading Ruler to gain focus and read more easily. Access it via the more tab in the Aa menu.

The first item sounds a lot like what is supposedly coming to e-ink Kindles "over the next couple of weeks."

Looks like the Reading Ruler is only available when in Scroll mode.

Yes. I tried it and found it to be distracting and not useful.

I did as well, but can see it being useful for some users with vision issues etc.

They have fixed a problem with Speak Screen support: it no longer reads one page and stops, as it had been for some months (requiring Speech Controller to be set to always display). Now it continues reading the next page (as expected).

Still looking for some reading apps to support installable fonts (iOS 13 feature). Or multiple books open at once (iPadOS).

I think the vertical scroll bar has been there for last few updates, and it was much needed. If they would just support immersion reading in scrolling mode, too.

I’m probably one of 3 people who would like Word Runner added to the iOS app.

BTW, if you like text-to-speech, I recommend using the Alexa app instead of Speak Screen. Alexa is more natural sounding than the Siri voices I’ve tried, and it is fully integrated as an audio app so you can control playback with headset controls or control panel. It also has more gradation of reading speed (increments of .25x), which you can request by voice command. It supports at least English and Spanish. Once you have it going, switch back to the Kindle app and follow along. Of course you can follow along on a second device, such as a Kindle.

Am I missing something, or did the option to use System Brightness disappear?

Can you clarify what you're asking? The brightness control is at the bottom of the Aa window.

There used to be a checkbox next to the brightness slider that was labelled "Use System Brightness" and that over-rode the brightness slider. It's still there in the Android App, at least for now.

I've never seen that, and I've got the Kindle app on several iDevices.
