Calibre and dropbox - epub books disappeared??

Hello,

After years of storing my epub library on my laptop, I started storing them in my dropbox instead (only very recently).

Now, I only see an opf file for the metadata, and the cover. My entire epub library seems to have disappeared!

Can you help?

Kind regards,
Clarissa.

Possibly you could retrieve them from the file history in Dropbox.

You must never, ever have Dropbox running while Calibre is open. That leads to library corruption pretty fast.

Calibre is NOT intended to run with data from the cloud.
Keep a copy (shadow only. Not 2 way) of the Library, Yes. But as Sirtel noted: Sync must be paused.
Calibre does things in sequences. Break or delays can wreck havoc with those steps.

I have kept my Calibre library resident in my Dropbox account for a couple of years now with no problems. I do this so I can access my library from my home computer as well as my laptop when away. However, I am always very careful to not have Calibre open on both computers at the same time. I'm on Macs but I wouldn't think it would make a difference if you were on PCs.

We only point out "Best Practice" recommendations, not a 'you might get away with this (until you don't ) reply.
This is also troubleshooting, the only OFFICIAL install type is supported. Kovid does not have the time to invest debugging every possible user install variant.
And I sure don't want to spend a lot of time with a single persons 'weird' install. If they can GET IT TO WORK THEIR WAY, more power to them... But...

I have the same arrangement (except on Windows) and "have gotten away with it", so far. But I run Library Maintenance regularly, because conflicted copies do creep in, nevertheless. And in addition to not having Calibre open on both computers, I also never have Dropbox running on both at the same time, or Dropbox running while Calibre is open. One can never be too careful.
