How do I transfer between 2 devices?

I have Calibre on a Windows laptop and on a Windows tablet.
I simply want to transfer books from one Calibre library to the other. I know Windows is crap when it comes to connecting devices but I was hoping Calibre would connect itself.
Please can somebody help?

I have my Calibre libraries in a central location and I connect all my instances of Calibre to this drive. It works perfectly with Win10. The desktop is the server and the laptop and Surface Pro 2 connect without a problem.

Your saying that Win10 is crap at connecting to other devices is just just wrong. It's that you don't have the settings and/or permissions correct.

Thanks JSWolf. Maybe "crap" was a bit harsh. I've just always found Windows very frustrating to deal with. More often than not I end up using a 3rd party program.
Can I trouble you for the settings and/or permissions?

it would be much faster and simpler to copy the books to a usb and walk across the room, than to learn all you need to know about windows sharing...

having said that, if both devices are running windows 10, on the same LAN,. and both are connected to the same PRIVATE network ( must be private, not public) is just a case of ticking a few boxes...
start with My network on each device, if each can see the other PC under the computers tab, you are half way there.
if not there's some box ticking/unticking to do within sharing options
you also have to set the books folder's sharing options so that " everyone" has read access, in order to copy the books from the remote PC

Yes, and of course one might use a USB HDD to back up content regularly. I find the USB memory sticks a bit slow.

for large, long video files, I also find them a bit slow, but for a few 500Kb books it's a couple of seconds. The walk across the room will be the slowest part of the process

( unless you have a very small room )

Yes, very fast for a few books. Hours for 21 G of backup!

Yes, that's where windows sharing becomes useful.
I have usb drives attached to Nvidia shield TV devices for Plex servers and I can write to those over lan by having the pc see them as network drives. 21gb would only take about 10 minutes, maybe less.

There's a huge difference in transfer rates when copying 21GB worth of 1GB+ videos versus 21GB consisting of thousands of folders and hundreds and thousands of 1MB files or smaller.

Plenty of USB sticks that can handle large video copies just fine but drop down to 0.1 MB/s or slower with sustained small files write.

Instead of USB flash drives or HDDs, I use 2.5" SSDs with USB3 to SATA adapters or docks.

I'm lazy though so I just have RealTimeSync (included in FreeFileSync) automatically monitor and copy changes from my desktop/main library to Dropbox.
